He congratulated the Executive on their victory and specially lauded the tenacity and focus of Ike to be elected the first female NUJ FCT Council Chairman after 43 years of establishment, and also commended the peaceful and well organized electoral process.
He said: “We want a vibrant media profession where people can practice well and be unbiased.
“We will support you in any way that would help you in moving the union forward. We would be partners and we are here for you.
However, he said, ” Use your tenure to change things and restore the dignity of the journalism profession.”
Earlier, in her remarks, the FCT NUJ Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, explained reasons behind the exco’s visit, “This visit represents not only an opportunity to deepen our relationship but also a moment to reaffirm the critical role of strategic partnerships in nation-building, particularly between two institutions as significant as the NNPC and the NUJ.
“Permit me to begin by introducing the newly elected executives of the NUJ FCT Council. This dynamic team of seasoned journalists and media professionals is committed to upholding the highest standards of journalism while fostering collaboration with key stakeholders such as the NNPC.
“Our tenure is driven by a vision to create partnerships that benefit not just our institutions but the broader society, ensuring accurate, fair, and development-oriented reporting.
“The Need for Partnership: As the lifeblood of Nigeria’s economy, NNPC plays a pivotal role in driving national growth. Similarly, the NUJ serves as the voice of the people, a bridge between stakeholders and the public, and a platform for advocacy and accountability. Our shared mandate for nation-building makes collaboration not only desirable but essential.
“We believe that by working together, we can amplify NNPC’s efforts in promoting transparency, sustainability, and innovation while fostering a deeper understanding of your work among the public.
“Collaboration Opportunities: We envision a partnership that goes beyond occasional interactions. The NUJ is ready to work with the NNPC on impactful projects, such as media tours to showcase your achievements, policy dialogues to engage stakeholders, and special reports that highlight your role in the energy transition.
“We are confident that this collaboration will enhance public trust in your operations while aligning with your mission to ensure Nigeria’s energy security and economic stability.
“Capacity Building: Through Training
The media industry is evolving rapidly, with new technologies and techniques reshaping how news is gathered and disseminated. To this end, we seek NNPC’s support in organizing capacity-building programs for our members.
“These trainings could focus on energy reporting, data journalism, and understanding the intricacies of the oil and gas industry. An informed press is better equipped to report accurately and fairly, ensuring that the public understands the complexities of your operations and policies.”
Meanwhile, the FCT NUJ Council boss assured of, “Reporting NNPC in Good Light; As journalists, we understand the power of narratives. A significant part of our responsibility is to ensure that the public receives balanced and factual reports. We are committed to portraying NNPC’s contributions to national development in an accurate and positive light, particularly as you navigate the challenges of the global energy landscape and strive to reposition Nigeria as a leader in this space. By working together, we can counter misinformation and promote an informed citizenry.”
She (Ike), still maintained that, “I want to reiterate our readiness to collaborate with NNPC in building a strong, mutually beneficial partnership.
“Together, we can create a synergy that not only advances the interests of our respective institutions but also contributes to the prosperity of our great nation.”
