Oleksandr Usyk retains heavyweight titles with decisive victory over Tyson Fury
Ukrainian boxing sensation Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury by unanimous decision in their heavyweight rematch on Saturday, solidifying his legacy as an undefeated champion across two divisions.
Usyk, known for his relentless pace and precision, dominated the bout by consistently landing accurate left hooks. All three judges scored the fight 116-112 in favor of the 36-year-old, extending his professional record to 23-0 with 14 knockouts.
The victory adds another chapter to Usyk’s illustrious career, which includes an Olympic gold medal and the distinction of being an undisputed cruiserweight champion. Despite relinquishing his IBF title to focus on this rematch, Usyk retained the WBA, WBO, and WBC belts, cementing his status as one of boxing’s all-time greats.
Having already achieved undisputed heavyweight champion status earlier this year, Usyk now joins legends like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson. His win also marks a milestone as the first undisputed heavyweight of the four-belt era.
For Tyson Fury, the defeat raises questions about his future in the sport. With a professional record of 34-2-1, the British boxer, who briefly retired in 2022, may face challenges in reclaiming his standing in the heavyweight division.
