Olivia Hussey, the beloved actress who brought Juliet to life in Franco Zeffirelli’s acclaimed 1968 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, has passed away at the age of 73.  

Her family shared the heartbreaking news via Instagram, honoring her extraordinary career and the lasting impact she made in the world of cinema.

Hussey’s portrayal of Juliet remains an enduring symbol of youthful passion and artistry, captivating audiences for decades.

Her passing marks the end of an era, but her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Olivia Hussey Eisley, who went peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on December 27th. Olivia was a remarkable person whose warmth, wisdom, and pure kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.

Born on April 17th, 1951 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Olivia lived a life full of passion, love, and dedication to the arts, spirituality, and kindness towards animals”.

Hussey’s breakout role in Romeo and Juliet, which she landed at just 15 years old, earned her a Golden Globe for “New Star of the Year” and solidified her place in cinematic history.

Her performance, opposite Leonard Whiting, remains an unforgettable portrayal of Shakespeare’s timeless heroine.

Throughout her illustrious career, Hussey appeared in a diverse range of films and television shows, including the 1974 horror classic Black Christmas and the 1978 adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile.

Hussey is survived by her loving husband, musician David Eisley, their three children, and a grandchild.
