Peter Obi visit Dele Farotimi, commends his dedication to a better Nigeria
Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has praised the resilience and commitment of legal practitioner Dele Farotimi in his quest for a better Nigeria.
Obi expressed these sentiments in a series of tweets on Friday following his visit to Farotimi, who recently regained freedom after being detained at a correctional facility in Ekiti State.
Farotimi’s arrest on December 3, 2024, by officers of the Ekiti State Police Command was linked to allegations of defamation and cyberbullying made by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and prominent legal figure, Aare Afe Babalola. The allegations stemmed from statements in Farotimi’s book titled Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
Speaking about the visit, Obi described Farotimi as a patriot whose dedication to justice and accountability embodies the values needed for Nigeria’s progress.
He called on Nigerians to stand in solidarity with those advocating for a better nation, even in the face of challenges.
“Since his return from the correctional centre in Ekiti, I have not had the opportunity to meet with him. I was pleased to find him in good spirits and deeply encouraged by his unwavering dedication to the struggle for a better Nigeria,” Obi wrote.
“Dele Farotimi exemplifies courage in the face of adversity, consistently taking bold stands for good governance in our nation.
“I wish him a fruitful and productive year as we continue to work together toward the development of our country,” Obi added.
