Police arrest seven suspected cultists in Ogun State

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended seven suspected cultists allegedly terrorizing the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.  

The arrested individuals include Balogun Ibrahim, Towolawi Omotayo, Oshodi Oluwaseun, Nkechi John, Mustapha Aliu, Opeyemi Rasheed, and Mustapha Sikiru.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Omolola Odutola, the suspects, identified as members of the Aiye Confraternity, had been on the command’s watchlist for various cult-related activities.

The suspects were nabbed during a sting operation on Thursday by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.

Odutola further revealed that the alleged cultists were involved in robberies, housebreaking, and illicit drug use.

She said, “The SWAT team received intelligence that members of the Aiye Confraternity, also known as the Black Axe cult group, who had been on their watchlist for a long time, were spotted along Ogbo on Ijebu-Ode Road.

“Acting on this information, the SWAT team was dispatched for action, leading to the arrest of seven suspects. A search revealed exhibits including a cut-to-size, locally made, single-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, and a handheld axe.”

Odutola added that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspected members in the area.
