Real reason I was sent to prison – Ice Prince opens up
Nigerian rapper and singer Panshak Zamani, popularly known as Ice Prince, has shared details about his time in prison, describing it as a harrowing experience.
In September 2022, the artist was remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre by a Lagos State magistrate court after being accused of assaulting a police officer. Ice Prince later regained his freedom upon meeting his bail conditions.
Reflecting on the ordeal during a recent episode of the Listen podcast, the musician opened up about the emotional and physical toll of his time behind bars. “Going to jail was a horrible experience,” he stated, shedding light on an episode of his life that contrasted sharply with his glamorous career.
Ice Prince’s candid revelations offer a glimpse into the challenges faced by public figures when they encounter legal troubles.
He said, “Whatever story you were told is not what happened. The case is over now, so I can talk about it. I spent six days in jail. I didn’t get preferential treatment. It’s prison, so there was no preferential treatment. I’m not talking about a police cell.
“I have seen a lot of celebrities and public figures who went to police cells come out to brag as if they went through some sht. If you’ve never been to prison, you ain’t seen sht yet. I can’t explain it. It’s a different world. I don’t pray for my worst enemy to experience it. You have to be careful out there because mistakes can take you there. There are so many innocent people in there. It wasn’t a good experience.
“But I made friends in there. We hung out, chatted. It’s a different institution of higher learning.”
On what led him to prison, Ice Prince claimed he was only joking with the police officer he allegedly assaulted when he drove off after the officer entered his car during a stop-and-search operation.
