Rivers LG Poll: Fubara’s loyalists contest under APP

Amid a growing political crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Governor Siminialayi Fubara and his loyalists have shifted to the Action Peoples Party (APP) to contest the upcoming October 5 local government elections.

The move follows a power struggle within the PDP, where Fubara’s camp has lost control of party structures to the faction led by Chief Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Governor Fubara and his supporters, unable to regain control of the PDP through court interventions, have turned to the APP as their new political platform.

The APP, once a relatively unknown party in the state, has seen a surge in popularity as Fubara’s camp promotes its activities.

Fubara’s loyalists have emerged as chairmanship and councillorship candidates under the APP, solidifying their presence in the political landscape.

Among the chairmanship candidates are Vincent Reuben Obu for Abua/Odua, Chibudom Ezu for Ahoada-East, and Mrs. Tonye Oniyide for Akuku-Toru, among others.

The APP Secretariat in Port Harcourt has become a hub of political activity, with party members and Fubara’s supporters actively engaged in preparations for the upcoming elections.

Despite internal protests over candidate selections in some areas, including Khana Local Government Area, the Fubara camp remains focused on contesting under the APP banner.
