Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced a ₦10 million reward for credible information leading to the arrest of gunmen behind a deadly attack in the Ihiala area.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Monday, claimed the lives of at least seven people, including five security operatives and two civilians. The attack took place during preparations for a funeral ceremony scheduled for January 2, when assailants opened fire indiscriminately, leaving several dead.

The gunmen also targeted security personnel near the local government headquarters as they fled the scene, exacerbating the chaos.

Confirming the incident, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, disclosed that Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono Itam has launched a manhunt for the assailants.

Addressing the incident at the burial of late Bridget Akanma Onuchukwu in Ihiala, Governor Soludo urged community leaders and residents to unite against criminal elements and reclaim peace in the state.

He said, “Communities must rise now and come together. Those who are doing this are within this Ihiala. If you are PG (President General), or leader, or group leader, get information about what is happening.

“We must rise. We must not let this thing happen again. Anyone who gives us information that will lead to the arrest of these people, the government will give the person N10 million.

“We are placing N10 million on their heads, each of them who carried out this crime.

“These people who did this, their lineage will never see anything good. They, their families, their children and everything about them will never see any good thing.”
