Tension as fire engulfs popular filling station in Akwa Ibom
A fire outbreak on Saturday morning engulfed a petrol station in Itam, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, destroying a truckload of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The incident, which occurred along the Itam-Ikot Ada Idem road connecting Ikot Ekpene and Uyo, attracted swift intervention from the state fire service and police personnel.
Witnesses reported that the blaze, which began hours earlier, initially overwhelmed the firefighters due to its intensity.
After hours of battling the inferno, the combined efforts of the emergency responders successfully brought the situation under control.
Motorists and passersby were temporarily affected by the incident, which disrupted activities in the area.
No casualties or further damages have been reported at the time of this publication, though investigations into the cause of the fire are underway.
“I am only afraid the fire might result in the loss of lives. Property and resources lost can be regained, but we don’t want any human life to be affected,” a motorist at the scene expressed.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire outbreak had not been determined. However, the Police confirmed that no casualties were recorded.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, speaking to Sunday Vanguard via telephone, stated, “When the fire started, the Police were contacted. Right now, an investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak. Information at my disposal indicates that no casualty was recorded.”
