The lamentable state of Abuja-Kaduna road: A call for urgent action: Farouk El-Sadiq

The importance of a well-maintained road network cannot be overstated. Good roads are the lifeline of any nation’s economy, as they facilitate the movement of goods, services, and people.

The Abuja-Kaduna road, in its dilapidated state, hampers economic activities, disrupts trade, and poses a constant threat to the safety and lives of motorists.

In recent years, the Abuja-Kaduna road has transformed from a vital transportation artery connecting the capital city of Abuja to the North West and further to the North East, into a nightmare for motorists.

What was once a smooth and convenient 200km journey of approximately two hours has now become a treacherous ordeal plagued by potholes, accidents, and loss of lives. This deplorable situation has left many wondering why the reconstruction of this crucial road has come to a standstill.

It is disheartening to note that the previous administration of President Buhari has failed to prioritize the completion of the Abuja-Kaduna road, despite eight years in power. This negligence is a significant and permanent negative in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The completion of the Abuja-Kaduna road project is not just a necessity; it is a burning desire shared by the people of the North and indeed the generality of Nigerians due to the strategic importance of the road, as it would not only alleviate the suffering of commuters but also enhance socio economic development of the country.This road holds immense potential for economic growth, regional integration, and national unity.

However, the sorry state of the road indicates that work on the road has come to a complete halt, leaving us questioning the government’s priorities and a glaring example of the neglect and apathy towards vital infrastructure projects. It is a matter of great concern that the government’s priority list fails to encompass the urgent reconstruction of this road and many others in dire conditions. We must recognize that good roads are the backbone of a thriving economy, and their neglect affects the lives of ordinary citizens.

It is therefore a unique opportunity for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to endear himself to the North by championing the completion of this vital road. By taking swift action, the government can demonstrate its commitment to the welfare and well-being of Nigerians. It is our hope that the Minister of Works and the President will heed the call for urgent action and prioritize the completion of the Abuja-Kaduna road, thereby restoring confidence and trust in the government’s ability to address the pressing needs of the people.
