Trailer accident causes heavy gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Command, has called for caution from motorists and the public after a trailer accident caused significant traffic congestion on the Kara Bridge, Berger, along the Ibadan-bound section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The incident occurred early Wednesday when a trailer carrying containers fell, narrowing the lanes and causing a major traffic gridlock.
In a statement released by Kehinde Hamzat, the FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, the agency advised motorists to stay calm and avoid actions that could escalate the situation.
The FRSC also highlighted the negative impact of some impatient drivers who compounded the traffic by driving against the flow on the Lagos-bound side of the road, disrupting movement in both directions.
Motorists are urged to adhere to traffic rules and cooperate with road safety officers managing the situation.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of all road users. We urge the public to cooperate with traffic officials on the ground and avoid actions that could worsen the traffic situation,” the statement read.
The FRSC said it is working alongside the police, LASTMA, and other traffic management agencies to clear the fallen trailer and restore normal traffic flow.
Hamzat stated that the FRSC is “deploying professionals and mobilising the necessary recovery equipment to remove the fallen trailer and restore normal traffic flow.”
FRSC encouraged motorists to “explore alternative routes to avoid delays.
“Postpone non-essential trips where possible to ease traffic congestion.
“Exercise patience and caution to ensure safety during this period.”
