Truck fails brake, crushes pedestrian to dead in Lagos
A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday when a truck crushed an unidentified pedestrian to death at the Iyana-Ishasi U-turn, inward Mile 2, Lagos State.
The incident took place just hours after another similar tragedy at Ilubirin, inward Sura, near the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge.
The latest accident involved a fully loaded Howo tipper, whose registration number remains unknown.
The crash happened around 11 am, with the truck suffering catastrophic brake failure while navigating through traffic at high speed, causing the driver to lose control completely.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), confirmed the tragic details, which have added to growing concerns about road safety in the area.
“The out-of-control vehicle tragically veered off its path and struck an innocent pedestrian walking along the roadside, causing an instantaneous fatality,” Bakare-Oki stated.
He commended the collaborative efforts of FRSC and LASTMA officials, who managed the incident effectively, while officers from the Ishasi Police Division provided security reinforcement for the ongoing rescue operation.
Bakare-Oki while offering condolences to the bereaved family, emphasized the importance of safety consciousness among motorists and strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
