Tuchel named as new England National Team manager

Thomas Tuchel, the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea manager, is poised to be appointed as the new head coach of the England national football team, according to reports from The Times.

If confirmed, Tuchel will become only the third foreign manager to lead the Three Lions, after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

The 51-year-old German has been without a managerial position since his departure from Bayern Munich last season.

Known for his tactical expertise, Tuchel led Chelsea to UEFA Champions League success in 2021 and also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with the club.

His achievements fit the FA’s criteria of appointing a “world-class coach who has won trophies.”

The Football Association (FA) has yet to officially comment on the reports, but an update from CEO Mark Bullingham is expected at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.

The potential appointment follows Gareth Southgate’s resignation as England manager after Euro 2024, with interim manager Lee Carsley taking charge temporarily.

Tuchel will inherit a highly talented England squad, with players like Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham among the frontrunners for the 2026 World Cup.

This move signals England’s continued pursuit of an international coach capable of ending their major tournament drought, which stretches back to their 1966 World Cup victory.
