UCL: Lewandowski’s double fires Barcelona to 5-2 victory over Red Star

Robert Lewandowski’s stellar form continued as he netted twice in Barcelona’s commanding victory over Red Star Belgrade, marking a third consecutive Champions League win for the Catalan giants.

At 36, the Polish striker is closing in on a historic milestone, with his season tally now at 19 goals in just 16 appearances.

This latest performance brings him one goal shy of becoming only the third player to reach 100 Champions League goals, a feat previously achieved only by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Barcelona took the lead with Inigo Martinez’s header in the 13th minute, but Red Star leveled through Silas Katompa Mvumpa’s surprising goal.

Lewandowski restored the lead with a reactive finish from Raphinha’s shot rebound, giving Barca a boost before the break.

The game tilted further in Barca’s favor early in the second half. Jules Kounde provided assists for both Lewandowski and Raphinha, and later set up Fermin Lopez for a decisive fourth goal.

Though Red Star’s Milson managed a late consolation with a remarkable curled finish, the Serbian champions remain winless, positioned at the bottom of the new 36-team Champions League format.

Barcelona’s win propels them to sixth, with Lewandowski primed for a chance to hit his 100th Champions League goal when they face Brest at home later this month.
