UPDATED: Gov Kefas sister accidentally shot by escort during gunmen ambush, mother escapes

Atsi Kefas, the sister of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, was accidentally shot by a police escort during an attack by gunmen on Thursday, according to reports from Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication. 

The incident occurred along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. Atsi was traveling with her mother, Jumai Kefas, when their convoy was ambushed by gunmen.

In a bid to repel the attackers, a police officer escorting the family mistakenly fired a shot that struck Atsi. The situation prompted swift intervention by security forces, who rescued the victims and evacuated them using an air ambulance.

Atsi Kefas was rushed to a hospital for treatment, though her current condition remains undisclosed.

Security operatives recovered the attackers’ vehicle, along with an empty magazine and passenger luggage. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the assailants.
