Why I admire US for its true democracy – Singer Davido
Nigerian Afrobeats icon Davido has voiced his admiration for the democratic process in the United States, drawing a sharp contrast with Nigeria’s system.
During an interview on The Morning Hustle show, the award-winning artiste reflected on his involvement in the recent U.S. presidential election, where he cast his vote as a dual citizen of Nigeria and the U.S.
Davido revealed he voted for Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party, motivated by the aspiration to see the United States elect its first female president during his lifetime.
Highlighting the fairness of the U.S. electoral system, the Timeless hitmaker commended it as a true reflection of the people’s will, implying a need for improvement in Nigeria’s own democratic processes.
This remark adds to the ongoing conversation about electoral reforms and the importance of transparency in governance in Nigeria.
Despite Donald Trump narrowly winning the election, Davido commended the seamless process, saying, “What I like about America is that there is true democracy. Where I come from [Nigeria], it’s not so. The truth is people voted for him. I voted for Kamala. People voted, so whatever happens, happens.”
