Nigerian singer Michael Adebayo, popularly known as Ruger, has opened up about a profound spiritual experience at the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Lagos, where he spent his childhood.

The “Asiwaju” crooner attended the church’s crossover service this year, marking his return to a tradition he had missed over the past two years due to commitments abroad.

Determined to prioritize this spiritual milestone, Ruger instructed his manager to cancel any shows that could disrupt his attendance.

During the service, Ruger experienced a deeply emotional moment, shedding tears for the first time in four years.

He described the encounter as a powerful connection with God, leaving him moved and rejuvenated.

The singer’s testimony highlights the importance of reconnecting with one’s spiritual roots and the transformative impact such experiences can have on personal growth.

“Happy New Year to everybody. Today, I am so happy to be here. Today, my manager texted me and told me that I have one show tonight. And I told him to cancel it that I did not care,” Ruger said during his testimony.

“I have to be in church because in 2021, I was in church here. I missed the crossover service for 2022 and 2023 because I was outside the country. I told my manager to close all shows before the crossover service because I would not miss it. Whatever it is, we are not taking it,” he added.

Expressing his gratitude, Ruger thanked God, the congregation, and the church leadership for their role in his spiritual journey and personal development.

“I thank God. I have not cried in like four years. Today, I saw God again, and I cried. I thank God for my life. I thank God for everybody here. I thank God for everybody who has nurtured me since I started in this church,” he said.

“This is a very caring church. Because, if this church is not great, great people would not come out of this church.”

Ruger’s career took off in 2021 after signing with D’Prince’s Jonzing World Record, an affiliate of Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records. In February 2024, he announced his departure from Jonzing World Record to establish his own label, Blown Boy Entertainment.

The music star has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the AFRIMA Best Newcomer Award in 2021 and the Best New Artiste award at the 2023 Soundcity MVP Awards.
