Why I want to replace Damagum as PDP National Chairman – Former Benue Gov, Suswam

Former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has reiterated his interest in succeeding Ambassador Umar Illyya Damagum as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Suswam emphasized that the North Central region is constitutionally entitled to fill the position vacated by Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, as outlined in the PDP constitution.

Suswam clarified that the selection process for the new chairman will not involve elections but will be achieved through a consensus among party leaders and stakeholders.

He also voiced concerns about internal sabotage within the party, citing what he called “rascality” in recent state congresses, which contributed to the PDP’s poor performance in the last elections.

His statement highlights the challenges facing the party as it seeks new leadership and unity.

“Some people want to hoodwink us because they want to control the entire party structures in the state.

“Their actions led to the comprehensive defeat of the party in the last polls and we must stand firm not to allow them to have their way again.

” What they are enjoying is a short-term victory as you cannot build anything on nothing.

“It is only the ward congress that was genuinely conducted in 15 LGA in the state that will stand,” he said.
