Abia Assembly vow to terminate contract with Innoson over alleged failure to deliver vehicles

Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Ltd (IVM) has been warned by the Abia State House of Assembly that their contract may be terminated as a result of alleged delays in vehicle production for the lawmakers.

Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa expressed frustration over the unmet agreement during a press briefing in Umuahia on Thursday, commemorating the one-year anniversary of the 8th Assembly.

He stated that the lawmakers were still awaiting their vehicles one year after their inauguration.

Emeruwa highlighted that the decision to choose IVM was influenced by Governor Alex Otti’s initiative to support local manufacturers.

However, despite full payment, Innoson has failed to deliver the vehicles, defaulting on their commitment multiple times.

“To date, Innoson has not fulfilled its part of the agreement. We are now contemplating terminating the contract and demanding a refund if there is no compliance within the next 15 days,” Emeruwa asserted. “The Assembly is serious about this issue and cannot tolerate further delays.”

Reflecting on the Assembly’s achievements over the past year, Emeruwa noted that five out of fifteen proposed bills had been passed into law. Additionally, the Assembly has made 40 resolutions, and addressed 46 petitions and 55 motions.

Despite the ongoing issue with Innoson, Emeruwa emphasized that the Assembly has been active and productive, maintaining a harmonious relationship with the Executive branch.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the current Assembly, consisting of 24 members, was inaugurated on June 15, 2023.
