Nigerians living in the United States have written to President Bola Tinubu, urging an investigation into an alleged breach of protocol and public embarrassment caused by the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, in a public bus in the United States.

According to the petitioners, members of Nigerians in Diaspora (UK&US), despite desperate attempts by some aides with the NIS CG to calm her down, the incident was a clear disgrace to the Nigerian government and its people.

In the letter to the President, petitioners Dr. Karimu Dajuma and Engr. Tele Ademola stated that the incident occurred while the NIS CG was noticeably participating in a Zoom security meeting on a public bus at about 11 PM Nigerian time.

According to the group, the NIS CG outburst to the hearing of shocked Americans and other mixed races on the bus, was a breach of Nigeria’s privacy, exposing talk meant to be classified to the hearing of all, “As concerned Citizens based in US, knowing Nigeria Immigration Service, as ones a respected and responsible organisation,we can not afford to cover this heinous scandal and crime committed by Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller General of Immigration Service in a US Bus.

“The open disgrace, lack of professional and ethical standards was holding official security meeting from a Bus in the United States with all her Commanders at 1100pm ,Nigerian time.

” We are calling on Mr President and the Honourable Minister of Interior to launch an investigation into this incident and must come to the rescue of this service Nigeria Immigration Service before a bigger scandal will befall the security architecture of our nation.

“We believe that this public show of shame has exposed some very sensitive national issue to the public in a Bus in US. She was seen blowing hot on her Officers and the passengers in the Bus were equally embarrassed by her uncivil action. She was on Zoom Video conference and was viewed by All passengers and shouting in a public bus.

” She was being asked to calm down for serenity and against protocol. Some Americans started calling 911 to stop the bus and stop these “Nigerians” creating public nuisance to them. A senior Nigerian on the bus asked her to cut the video meeting and resume at her hotel room. She declined and continued disturbing the public peace in the Bus.

“It was her discussions and disorderly behaviour that made some angry Nigerians on the Bus to identify her as NIS CG under President Tinubu administration. The aides around her however shielded her from being videod by the angry passengers.

” We call on President Bola Tinubu to caution High Ranking Appointees and Public officials from Nigeria against disgraceful behaviours abroad. Tinubu should investigate this incident to save the image of the NIS and the country.

It will be recalled that a Transparency group, the Movement for Transparency and Accountability (MTA) had a fortnight ago raised the alarm over an alleged plot to extend the retirement date of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nandap.

According to the group, the official Public Service Rules stipulates that her retirement is due on October 10, 2024 after serving for 35 years, but said there are plans by some beneficiaries of her largesse to extend her tenure for selfish benefits.

The MTA, had in a statement issued and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Famous Daniel, argued that despite the fact that the Comptroller-General of the NIS, was instrumental to the retirement of many seasoned, experienced and more productive officers before her ascension to office, “Now,it is her turn to leave, the same treatment meted on others should apply to her”

The group also recalled that upon resumption of office, some 80 Officers of NIS had their posting to foreign missions halted and they threatened to drag the Comptroller-General to court over alleged violation of administrative procedure and their fundamental rights.

The group claimed that an opinion sampling conducted among Personnel from State Commands and the Headquarters of the service indicated that her tenure may have been the worst off of all the Comptroller Generals particularly for not adding value more than four months after her appointment.
