The Bauchi State Hisbah Board has detained Alhaji Bala Mohammed, an elderly man from Dass Local Government Area, for sharing photographs of over 50 women he claimed to have dated.

These images, some depicting compromising situations, recently went viral, prompting complaints from several of the women, now married, who reported the matter to the board.

In response to the arrest, Mohammed expressed regret for any offense caused to Muslims in northern Nigeria, acknowledging that his actions might be viewed as inappropriate. He defended his past behavior by stating that he was merely enjoying his life and emphasized that Nigeria is a secular state, implying that his personal choices should not be subject to religious scrutiny.

Mohammed further clarified that some of the photographs were taken two decades ago during his leisure activities. He claimed that the recent circulation of these images was initiated by his Facebook friends who shared them as old memories.

“I took some pictures 20 years ago with the women I dated for pleasure and to express my enjoyment. So, some people now discovered the pictures and began to reshare them, a situation that caused discomfort to the women in the pictures,” said Bala

According to him, he shared the pictures years back but none of the women complained until now, saying “Maybe it is some people who are instigating them.”

“I’m extending my apologies to the women who were offended but everyone has his own way of life. I did it because of pleasure and I’m living a secular life not a religious one,” he said.

Bala, who dismissed claims that the women were married when they dated, insisted that none of them was married and dared them to prove him wrong, maintaining that he has no remorse over what happened.
