Bayelsa Gov’s aide sentenced to three years imprisonment

Oguruguru was arrested for assaulting Ubong Effiong Ubek on February 20, 2024, in Agudama-Epie, which left the victim unconscious.
He was subsequently arraigned on a five-count charge, including conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm, serious assault, and malicious damage, before Justice I.A. Orukari.
During the trial, the prosecution presented six witnesses and seven exhibits to support its case.
Justice Orukari ruled that while the prosecution failed to prove the charges of attempted murder and malicious damage, the evidence presented was sufficient to establish conspiracy and assault occasioning harm.
The court discharged and acquitted Oguruguru on three counts but found him guilty on two.
In his allocutus, the defendant pleaded for leniency, citing his role as the sole provider for his young family and aged mother.
Justice Orukari, acknowledging the defendant’s remorse and status as a first-time offender, sentenced him to three years imprisonment with an option of a N250,000 fine for each count.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
