EPL: Chelsea’s title hopes stalls in goalless draw against Everton
Chelsea’s Premier League title ambitions suffered a setback as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by a determined Everton side at Goodison Park.
The result hands a significant boost to league leaders Liverpool, who are guaranteed to top the table at Christmas, regardless of Tottenham’s later clash with Arne Slot’s men.
Despite challenging weather conditions with swirling wind and rain, Chelsea created the better chances but failed to capitalize.
Jordan Pickford produced a superb save to deny Nicolas Jackson after a flowing team move, while the Senegalese striker later saw his header strike the post from close range.
Everton, under Sean Dyche’s leadership, held firm and carved out opportunities of their own.
Orel Mangala tested Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez with a powerful strike from distance, while Jack Harrison squandered a golden chance early in the second half, his tame effort smothered by Sanchez.
In the dying moments, Everton nearly stole all three points when Iliman Ndiaye found himself six yards from goal, but Tosin Adarabioyo’s heroic block ensured Chelsea at least left with a point.
The result leaves Chelsea trailing in the title race and gives Liverpool a morale boost ahead of the festive fixtures.
