Gov Uba Sani approves ₦72,000 minimum wage, launches free transport scheme for Kaduna workers

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has approved a new minimum wage of ₦72,000 for civil servants, set to take effect in November 2024.

Announced by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Musa, this decision underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of state workers and addressing the needs of vulnerable residents.

Governor Sani emphasized that the wage increase reflects his lifelong dedication to workers’ rights and social welfare. In addition to the salary hike, the governor will introduce a Free Transportation Scheme for civil servants, supported by 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses. This initiative aims to ease commuting challenges and improve worker productivity.

A Joint Management Committee, including representatives from the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the state government, will oversee the transportation scheme’s implementation and ensure its effectiveness in benefiting civil servants.

“The Kaduna State Government will continue to fashion and implement policies and measures to bring succour to the people. We are committed to transforming the lives of the less privileged. With the sustained support of our citizens, we shall make Kaduna State a Model for Social Welfare Interventions,” the statement read.
