In a shocking development, the long-awaited airdrop from the crypto-mining app Hamster Kombat has sparked outrage among thousands of Nigerians who had invested months of effort tapping to earn rewards.

After five months of anticipation, users were hopeful for life-changing payouts, only to receive paltry sums far below expectations.

When the coin finally launched on Thursday, users were met with disappointment as most payouts ranged from just $1 to $4, with unconfirmed reports placing the highest earnings between $7 and $17.

Social media quickly erupted with frustration, as users, who were promised substantial rewards and even billionaire status, vented their anger.

The Hamster Kombat campaign, which began in March 2024, had captivated the Nigerian crypto community with promises of turning everyday tappers into CEOs.

However, as users received payouts as low as ₦2.75, feelings of betrayal and disillusionment spread rapidly across various online platforms.

Hamster Kombat’s official account on X announced the coin’s launch, encouraging users to withdraw their tokens and trade on Binance.

Yet, the excitement quickly turned into widespread disappointment, as the token, listed at $0.008315 on CoinMarketCap, failed to meet users’ sky-high expectations.

Netizens took to social media to express their discontent. User Geoffrey Nwankpa humorously declared “hunting season” for hamsters, while another user, Ediboi, sarcastically called himself the “CEO of dust.”

The once-promising project has now become a symbol of dashed hopes, leaving many to reflect on the risks and unpredictability of the crypto world.

Similar frustrations were also voiced by users of Tapswap, another popular tap-to-earn app, as its token allocation faced repeated delays, further compounding the disillusionment within the crypto community.
