Nasir Buba, the husband of a woman allegedly found with the suspended Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Awwal Danladi Sankara, in an uncompleted building, has taken legal action by filing a case in a Sharia Court in Kano.

The Hisbah operatives arrested Sankara on Friday after an “intense surveillance” operation, which followed a formal complaint made by Buba. The surveillance led to the apprehension of the commissioner alongside the married woman in a compromising situation.

In light of the scandal, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State suspended Sankara from office, pending the outcome of an investigation into the matter.

Buba, represented by his legal counsel, Haruna Magashi, has called on the court to investigate Sankara, accusing him of engaging in inappropriate and immoral behavior with a married woman. The case now awaits further deliberation.

“The complainant, Alhaji Nasir Buba, has laid a formal complaint before this court that he is suspecting Awwal Sankara of committing an offence and therefore he wants the matter to be investigated,” the lawyer said.

Counsel for the suspended commissioner, Shehu Sadam, told our reporter that the husband filed a criminal complaint against his client, adding that the case was not initiated by Hisbah as many erroneously believed.

He said, “We read so much news on the social media by Kano State Hisbah Board and the complainant is Alhaji Nasir Buba. We heard that the matter would be heard today (Monday) and so we were in court on behalf of our client.”

Neither the commissioner nor the married woman were in court

The judge, Khadi Abdullahi Sarki Yola, is expected to hear the matter on Tuesday.
