Bayern Munich set a new Champions League record on Tuesday, defeating Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 at home, with Harry Kane scoring four goals, including three penalties.

The victory made Bayern the first team to score nine goals in a single Champions League match, surpassing their previous record 8-2 win over Barcelona in 2020.

Kane opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a penalty, and a second-half hat trick saw him reach 33 Champions League goals, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record for the most goals by an Englishman in the competition. Despite a brief scare when Bayern lost goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to injury and Zagreb scored two quick goals, Bayern’s dominance prevailed.

Former Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise scored twice on his Champions League debut, while Raphael Guerreiro, Leroy Sane, and Leon Goretzka added to the scoreline. Kane’s heroics brought his tally to 53 goals in 50 games for Bayern, continuing his sensational form since joining the German side.

Though Bayern faced a second-half lapse, Kane acknowledged the need to improve, particularly against tougher opposition. The victory extended Bayern’s streak of winning every opening Champions League match since 2002-03 and boosted their goal difference under the new single-league format.
