Katsina police foil kidnapping attempt, rescue 10 victims after gun battle
The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt on the Katsina-Magama Jibia road, rescuing ten victims following a gunfight with suspected armed bandits.
The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, December 24, 2024, when the bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked a commercial vehicle, firing at its occupants and attempting to abduct them.
In a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, revealed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia promptly led a team of operatives to the scene upon receiving a distress call.
The officers engaged the assailants in a gun duel, successfully foiling the abduction and rescuing all ten victims.
However, ASP Sadiq disclosed that four of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and were rushed to the hospital.
Tragically, two of them succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical care.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, lauded the officers for their bravery and unwavering commitment to protecting lives.
He urged them to sustain this level of dedication in combating crime.
CP Musa also appealed to residents to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station promptly.
