Nigerian Gov declares three days mourning for late COAS, Lagbaja

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared a three-day mourning period for the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja.

Beginning today, Thursday, November 7, 2024, the mourning period will last until Saturday, November 9, with flags ordered to fly at half-mast throughout the state.

In a statement issued by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the government expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the distinguished military leader, describing his death as a “colossal loss to humanity and the nation.”

Alimi emphasized the impact of Lt General Lagbaja, noting that his contributions and legacy will never be forgotten. Condolence registers have been opened at the Government House and the Governor’s Office to allow residents to share messages in his honor.

Governor Adeleke extended his sympathies to the Lagbaja family, the Olobu of Ilobu, and the entire community of Osun State, calling Lagbaja one of the state’s finest and expressing grief over the “irreparable loss.”

He concluded with prayers for the late COAS, hoping for God to grant him Aljanna Firdaus. Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja passed away at the age of 56, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment to Nigeria.
