Okono Nsa filling station caught selling air to Nigerians amid high fuel price

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has taken decisive action in Calabar, shutting down three petrol stations for overcharging customers and using faulty meters to dispense fuel.

This crackdown is part of a larger effort by the NMDPRA to ensure fair and transparent fuel distribution across the state.

The operation targeted multiple stations in the state capital as Comfort Ajayi, the NMDPRA’s South-South Regional Coordinator, issued a stern warning to fuel marketers. She made it clear that any station caught cheating the public would face severe consequences.

Ajayi also addressed the ongoing issues of fuel hoarding and illegal sales in jerrycans, highlighting them as major contributors to artificial scarcity and cross-border smuggling. She assured residents that the NMDPRA is committed to cleaning up the sector and protecting consumers.

Meanwhile, truck drivers have expressed their frustrations over long wait times at depots, despite assurances from depot managers that fuel is being dispensed smoothly without hoarding.

This crackdown is part of a broader initiative by the NMDPRA to sanitize the downstream sector and restore consumer confidence in the availability and pricing of petroleum products in Cross River State and beyond.
