Police apprehend two suspected tricycle thieves in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has successfully recovered two tricycles stolen by suspected thieves and returned them to their rightful owners.
In a statement released on Thursday, December 19, 2024, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, credited the recovery to a well-coordinated intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts in Dambatta Local Government Area.
The operation, which took place on December 9, highlights the commitment of law enforcement to tackling theft and ensuring the safety of residents in Kano State.
“During the operation, two suspects, Ado Yusuf, 40 and Rabi’u Suleiman, 35, were arrested, and the two tricycles were recovered from them,” Haruna said.
He said on preliminary investigations, the suspects could not give a satisfactory account of the tricycles.
“Following the Command’s Press Conference of 10th December 2024, on December 17, 2024, the owner of one of the tricycles, with registration number KGM 246VC, appeared at the Command’s Headquarters.
“The owner revealed that the suspects had drugged the tricycle rider, Mamman Musa, and stole the tricycle.
Haruna explained that the victim was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital Kano and later transferred to Kano Reformatory Institute Kiru, treated and then discharged, adding that the victim identified one of the suspects as the person who drugged him.
He said the tricycle had been handed over to the owner, and the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba, had ordered a discreet investigation. After that, the suspects will be charged in court.
“The Command urges members of the public who have fallen victim to similar crimes, specifically those whose tricycles have been snatched through drugging or other means, to report to the office of the Police Public Relations Officer at command’s Headquarters Bompai for possible identification,” the statement added.
