Premier League referee David Coote fired Following misconduct probe
Premier League referee David Coote, 42, has been dismissed by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) following allegations of misconduct.
Coote was initially suspended on November 11 after a video surfaced on social media, allegedly showing him making derogatory remarks about Liverpool and its former manager, Jurgen Klopp.
The controversy deepened two days later when The Sun published photos purportedly taken during the summer’s European Championship, which appeared to show Coote using a white substance with a rolled-up US dollar bill.
The authenticity of the video and photos has not been independently verified by the BBC.
PGMOL conducted a thorough investigation and concluded that Coote’s actions were a “serious breach” of his employment contract, rendering his position “untenable.”
Despite the termination, the organization emphasized its ongoing commitment to Coote’s welfare and support during this period.
Coote retains the right to appeal the decision.
