Premier League slams punishment on Guardiola’s Man City over breach of rules

The Premier League has taken disciplinary action against Manchester City, imposing a £2million fine on the club for repeatedly breaching kick-off and restart rules.

This punishment comes after City were found guilty of 22 instances of late kick-offs and restarts over the last two seasons.

An investigation by the Premier League found that Manchester City had failed to meet the scheduled kick-off and restart times on 22 occasions, spanning across the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons.

This consistent disregard for the rules led to the league taking action against the club.

In those two seasons, Pep Guardiola’s men won the title ahead of Arsenal.

“The Premier League and Manchester City FC have entered into a sanction agreement after the club accepted it had breached Premier League Rule L.33 relating to kick-off and re-start obligations,” a Premier League statement reads in part.

“The breaches relate to a number of Premier League matches during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.”
