The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board must make a significant decision following the fan protests that interrupted matchday 35 between Rangers and Enyimba on Sunday.

The top-of-the-table clash was hotly contested, as both sides knew a win would improve their prospects of winning the title.

The trouble began when the centre referee awarded Rangers a penalty deep into stoppage time.

Enyimba players and officials protested the decision and walked off the pitch in anger.

Their fans later invaded the pitch to express their displeasure over the referee’s decision.

Play was suspended afterward with the scoreline still at 0-0.

Elsewhere, Remo Stars suffered a big setback in their title aspirations after they went down to a 3-2 defeat against Lobi Stars in Lafia.

Christian Izuchukwu gave the home team the lead in the sixth minute, while Chinedu Chukwu added the second seven minutes before the break.

The visitors reduced the lead through Sikiru Alimi two minutes before the break.

Stanley Oganbor restored Lobi Stars’ lead five minutes before regulation time.

Chukwu scored an own goal two minutes from time to ensure a nervy end to the game.
