Following the recent local government elections in Rivers State, Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political tensions involving Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

George emphasized the importance of allowing Governor Siminalayi Fubara to govern effectively without interference.

George warned that President Tinubu would ultimately be the biggest loser if he failed to address Wike’s influence in the state. Fubara conducted the local government elections without the presence of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), raising concerns about the security and fairness of the electoral process.

Under Fubara’s leadership, the Action People’s Party (APP) secured victory in 22 local government areas, while the Action Alliance won one seat. The political rivalry between Wike and Fubara over control of the state’s political structure has intensified leading up to the elections.

George cautioned President Tinubu against allowing democracy to be undermined during his administration, urging him to take decisive action to promote stability and uphold democratic values in Rivers State.

In a statement he issued, the PDP chieftain said: “Now that people of Rivers State have boldly asserted their civic and constitutional rights by coming out to vote in the local government election on Saturday, this is the time for former governor of the state and now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to allow Governor Siminalayi Fubara work and deliver dividend of democracy to the people.

“This is also the time for President Bola Tinubu to advise Wike, who is one of his ministers, to allow the governor to work.

“I say this with all sense of responsibility because if this democracy is truncated, God forbid, Tinubu, as the Commander-in-Chief, will be the biggest loser.”
