Nigeria internationals Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi have rejoined Kano Pillars on short-term contracts for the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The duo was spotted at the training ground of the former NPFL champions on Thursday ahead of their match-day five home fixture against Sunshine Stars.

“Kano Pillars’ Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, Nazir Laja, and the rest of the squad trained ahead of NPFL 2024/25 Matchday 5 clash against Sunshine Stars this weekend,” the club confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.

Musa, 31, returns to Kano Pillars for his third stint, having previously played for the club during the 2009/10 and 2021 seasons.

Abdullahi, a defensive midfielder, is making his second appearance for the club, having featured for Pillars in 2012.

Abdullahi has been without a club since January 2023, while Musa terminated his contract with Turkish club Sivasspor in February.

Both players are able to sign with the team despite the closure of the NPFL summer transfer window, as they are joining as free agents.

Sunday Obaseki, the NPFL head of competitions, confirmed to our correspondent that the Super Eagles duo is eligible to walk into the squad for the current season.

“Yes, he can be registered. Ahmed Musa will be on the Transfer Matching System, so he won’t have a problem,” Obaseki said.

Current NPFL champions Rangers International have expressed interest in snapping up the Super Eagles captain before he rejoined his former club.

During Musa’s first spell at Pillars in 2009, he ended the season as the top scorer with 18 goals before joining VVV Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie.

His European adventure has seen him play for CSKA Moscow and Leicester City before moving to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Nassr.
