World Bank announces job vacancy in Abuja office (See Requirements)

The World Bank has announced a job opening for a Transport Specialist at its Abuja office, with the deadline for applications set for 25 September 2024.

In a post on its X handle, the World Bank Nigeria invited eligible candidates with strong technical expertise in urban mobility and transport sector management to apply.

This role is intended for locally recruited staff and will focus on improving transport infrastructure and services across Nigeria.

Interested individuals are encouraged to apply before the deadline.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee and manage transport projects as a Task Team Co-Leader, or contribute to their supervision, ensuring effective planning, design, procurement, construction, and operations, while addressing climate change and gender considerations.

Support technical dialogue with Nigerian authorities on urban mobility, guided by the Transport GP Practice Manager and Infrastructure PG Program Leader.
Lead or contribute to analytical studies on urban mobility, financing options, climate resilience, and best practices in infrastructure investment and management.
Participate in cross-sectoral teams to prepare key documents such as Systematic Country Diagnostics (SCD) and Country Climate and Development Reports (CCDR).
Engage with the transport practice community to advance knowledge and share insights through thematic technical groups and technical notes.
Stay updated on global developments in the transport sector relevant to this position.
Position Details:

Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Duration: 2-year appointment, renewable based on performance and business needs
Reporting to: IAWT3 Practice Manager
Qualifications:

Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in engineering, economics, finance, urban transport planning, or a related field.

At least 5 years of relevant experience in urban transport and broader transport issues, with proven ability in policy development, financing, investment prioritization, asset management, and contract management.

Experience with World Bank or similar programs in developing countries is advantageous.

Deep understanding of Nigeria’s urban mobility sector is essential.
Strong client relationship skills, quantitative methods proficiency, and excellent communication abilities in English.
